Celebrating A King.
Unity, Equity, and Dreams: Lessons from Dr. King’s Vision

As we commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day, I find myself reflecting on the incredible legacy of Dr. King and the profound impact his vision has had not only on America but on the entire world. For me, this day serves as a powerful reminder of the resilience, courage, and brilliance of those who came before us, paving the way for so many to dream and achieve. It is deeply personal as a Black woman - a citizen of the world, celebrating my own journey as a dreamer as I bring my own aspirations to realization.
Dr. King’s life was a testament to the power of dreaming boldly. His speeches and actions challenged us to envision a better future and to work tirelessly to make that vision a reality. That message resonates deeply with me as an entrepreneur and a creative spirit. It is through dreaming - and doing - that I have been able to transform my passions to my life.
When I reflect on what it means to create my dreams and bring them to fruition, I am reminded of Dr. King’s words: “Faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase.” For me, this represents not just the ability to dream but a testament to the spirit of perseverance and faith - the belief that anything is possible.
As a Black American, there is a unique sense of pride in being able to contribute to industries where our presence is often underrepresented. To stand as a creator is humbling, and it reminds me of the shoulders upon which I stand. Dr. King, my family and countless other leaders of the Civil Rights Movement made it possible for people like me to not only dream but to dream expansively, without limitations.
This MLK Day, I invite you to celebrate the power of dreaming and doing. Let us honor Dr. King’s legacy by continuing to challenge the status quo, by daring to take risks, and by building lives (and businesses) that reflect our highest aspirations. Whether through the arts, entrepreneurship, or community work, we all have the capacity to leave our mark and make the world a better place.
Dr. King’s dream was one of unity, equity, and progress. My dream has always been to create something that brings people together over shared experiences and the simple joys of life. As we raise our glasses today, let’s toast to the power of dreams and the incredible strength it takes to make them real. Here’s to Dr. King, to progress, and to the dreams we all continue to build.
With Love, Oxo.
